Bauhaus originals: an early Wassily Chair and a stool by Le Corbusier

In 1919, Walter Gropius founded the Bauhaus in Weimar — a school that united art, craft and technology into a new whole. Its aim: to shape everyday life, clearly, functionally and accessibly for all. «Form follows function» became the guiding principle of modern design.

Two classics from the early 1930s

The vision of the Bauhaus was particularly evident in its furniture. On offer was an early example of the «Wassily Chair» (Model B3) by Marcel Breuer, made by Thonet around 1931, which stands for the technical and aesthetic revolution of that era — estimated at CHF 10,000. Also made by Thonet: the rare stool «Model B304» by Le Corbusier, Pierre Jeanneret and Charlotte Perriand, around 1930, evidence of the collaboration between artists and industry.

Both designs are still considered thoroughly modern today — and were offered at the Autumn Auction 2025.
