Antiquities from the Eberhard W. Kornfeld Collection

Eberhard W. Kornfeld (1923-2023) shaped the Swiss art trade for decades. The Bernese art collector and dealer was a frequent guest at the meetings of the Swiss auctioneers’ association, which we also attend regularly. From his personal collection of antiquities, we were able to bring a number of items to auction.
Attic ware from the 6th century BC
At the centre stood a large Attic neck amphora, made around 520 to 510 BC and estimated at CHF 10,000. It was joined by an Attic trefoil jug from around 500 to 480 BC and — from a different culture altogether — an old carved war club «U'U» from the Marquesas Islands.
The items from the Kornfeld Collection were offered at the Spring Auction 2025 — the same auction at which the final part of the Pohl-Ströher miniatures collection was sold.
